项目简况:
Project 1:Advanced optical metrology techniques using adaptive optical strategies
Adaptive optical systems are currently enabling relevant enhancements in classical optical strategies. Microscopes, telescopes and interferometers are increasingly adding new features using active measurement strategies which extend their capabilities and allow novel advances in cutting-edge sciences.
Project 2:Development of the theory and practice of algorithms for soft constraint processing in the context of combinatorial optimization
Hard Combinatorial Optimization problems occur for instance when planning the timetable of a school or university, when designing the sports calendar of a league, or when scheduling the use of scarce resources (e.g. surgery equipement in a hospital). The purpose of this project is to advance in the theoretical and practical development of algorithms for such type of problems.
Project 3: Dynamical systems at UPC
The UPC Dynamical Systems Group is a wide group of researchers at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (
Project 4: Early Warning System based on meteorogical radar precipitation estimates
The Warning System is based on the precipitation estimates provided in realtime by the meteorological radar network of the Catalan Weather Service. The issued warnings are based on the comparison between observed accumulated rainfall and reference rainfall thresholds. These reference rainfall thresholds are spatially distributed and a historical analysis of rainfall is needed in order to associate hazard and occurrence periods. Then, the objective of the research is focused on the analysis of the current methodology and algorithms in order to advance and improve in the rainfall thresholds definition.
Project 5: Expanding the Horizons of Manufacturing: Solving the Integration Paradox (EHMAN)
The project aims at the enterprise-wide modelling and optimization (EWMO) by the development and application of integrated modelling, simulation and optimization methodologies, and computer-aided tools for reliable and sustainable improvement opportunities within the entire manufacturing network (raw materials, production plants, distribution, retailers and customers) and its individual components.
Project 6: Management of Internet Next Generation Services
The evolution of wireless communications is a reality; we have seen that even mobile subscribers have outnumbered the users of traditional fixed lines in Europe and in some parts of
Project 7: Millimetre-wave and Radio-frequency integration in Nanoelectronics for Modern Wireless Communications
Future communication standards will rely on the advanced characteristics of CMOS nanometer technologies (32nm and beyond) that allow higher frequencies and lower power consumption. This project aims to the Millimetre-wave and Radio-frequency integration in Nanoelectronics CMOS Platforms for Modern Wireless Communications. Works will be conducted in order to offer a silicon technology platform adequate for the development of modern wireless communication applications..
Project 8: New multifunctional textile materials
The basic idea of the project is to coat existing textile fibres with stimuli-sensitive polymer system based on biopolymer chitosan and other polysaccharides (carrageenan, dextrane sulfate, etc.). Chitosan is important biopolymer because it offers unique physico-chemical and biological properties, it is non-toxic and biodegradable. The main project objective is to control the properties of biopolymer chitosan coating and implement the multifunctionality based on nanotechnology to textile fibres in order to create the stimuli responsive or intelligent textile materials.
Project 9: PhD in Processor Microarchitecture and Compilers (several positions available)
The research group ARCO consists of members of the Department of Computer Architecture at UPC, members of the
Project 10: Predictive models and simulations in nano- and biomolecular mechanics: a multiscale approach
This project addresses three important topics in nano- and biomolecular mechanics, whose full understanding and technological exploitation require predictive models and simulations: (1) Mechanics of carbon nanotubes at engineering scales, (2) Mechanics of fluid membranes in eukaryotic cells and bioinspired technologies and (3) Local-to-global conformational space exploration and free energy calculations for biomolecules. In addition to specific impact in these applications, the proposed research is expected to exemplify the potential of multiscale approaches towards predictive and quantitative science and technology, as well as contribute to the credibility and utility of large investments in supercomputing.
Project 11: Three-dimensional cracking in soils due to oscillations of environmental variables
In this research project we propose to continue the experimental research focusing in two main subjects: a) study of the cracking process as a three-dimensional phenomenon, investigating key aspects such as the impact of crack opening in the volume of evaporated water, the cause of the different crack patterns seen on the top and bottom boundaries, or the three-dimensional crack pattern; and b) adding new features to an already existing environmental chamber to simulate, in the laboratory, cycles of temperature, air humidity or rain, to increase the precision and performance of the chamber because so far it has proven difficult to control some cyclic tests such as recurrent drought-rain episodes.
